The agricultural industry is a fundamental industry related to the national economy and the people’s livelihood. In the past seven plus years, Transfar Agriculture has regarded developing China’s agricultural industry as its duty, innovated in agriculture development mode and made contributions to the construction of new countryside. Transfr Agriculture is operated in Agriculture Hi-Tech Model Park of Zhejiang. It was started construction in 2000 and finished construction and opened in 2002. It was co-founded by Transfar Group and the government of Xiaoshan District upon the approval of the government of Zhejiang Province. Transfar Group is responsible for building and operating the park. It is the agricultural model park with the highest investment amount and highest technology content in Zhejiang. In September 2005, Transfar realized a profit of 380,000 yuan from the agricultural sector. Chairman Xu Guanju said in his speech on the meeting of the Chamber of Agricultural Industry in late February 2006 in Beijing: “As an enterprise group, subsidiaries will earn tens of million or hundreds of million profit. I take it for granted and never pay too much attention. But when our agricultural company earned 380,000 yuan profit, I was extremely excited. It is the result of toil. My opinion that ‘agriculture is an industry and should be profitable’ was proved. Our five years of hard exploration received a good result.” At that time, Transfar Agriculture was praised as “Transfar model for China’s agricultural industry” by Technology Daily and experts.
After exploring in modern agricultural industry for 7 years, the products of Transfar Agriculture have covered 20 plus provinces and cities in China and a number of foreign countries. Trnasfar founded 8 cultivation bases in Zhejiang, Yuannan, Guizhou, Sichuan and Shanxi.
By the end of 2007
- Trnasfar Agriculture had supplied 165 million seedlings and 7.5 million pots of flowers to society.
- The area of being provided direct service was 500,000 mu and the area of indirect service was 1.88 million mu, which directly promoted output of 1.87 billion yuan and promoted agricultural output of 7 billion yuan in total.
- Transfar had trained and provided after-sales services to 23800 person-times.
- The agricultural know-how watermelon graft seedling had raised earning of 3000 yuan for growers per mu per year. In 2007, the know-how raised total income of 50 million yuan for graft seedling growers. By the end of 2007, it raised total income of 290 million yuan for growers. The technology benefited 6500 grower households in more than 500 villages.
Technology and service innovation- make farmers understand two things and resolve two risks
To make products and technology with independent intellectual properties enter the field fast and make technology truly benefit farmers. Transfar formed “stage-by-stage promotion method” during the process of commercializing hi-tech research results and promoting technology. It allows farmers to understand both technology and market and resolve two risks. The stage-by-stage promotion method is to promote anti-market-risk seeds and seedlings to farmers according to the level the farmers master the technology and the facilities condition. When Transfar found farmers had the condition and ability to grow poinsettia and cyclame, it gave the mature varieties and market to farmers without the least hesitation. Recently, Transfar has successfully cultivated moth orchid and cymbidium hyridus. These products and the related technology will be transferred to farmers when farmer’s condition is allowed.
Transfar makes farmers understand two things in providing service. One is to understand technology. Farmers should understand the technology content of seeds and seedlings and know the proper growing method because Transfar not just provides a seedling but a set of systematic technical solution. The other is to understand market. Farmers should have the knowledge of flower product market and have the idea of the profit rate. Thus, farmers will understand technology and understand market. By doing so, Transfar successfully helps farmers resolve two risks. One is operating risk. The agricultural park produces seedlings for farmers and provides properly priced and high-quality seedlings to them, laying a solid foundation for subsequent production. The other is market risk. The agricultural park keeps studying the market and assigning best-selling products and technology with franchised or independent intellectual properties to farmers. Only when farmers’ products are sold quickly, Transfar will be able to produce more seedlings.
“Company + base + farmers” industrial operation mode
Transfar Agriculture has persisted in the tenet of working for rural areas, farmers and agricultural industry and sets out that “what farmers demand is what we will supply”. In view of this, while providing 20 plus flowers, ten plus trees and ten plus vegetable seeds and seedlings, Transfar Agriculture created three modes: creating 7 out-of-park production bases in line with the “company + base + farmers” mode; working with Wenling Agricultural Technology Promotion Office and Ninghai Chamber of Agriculture to provide services for 3000 farmer households in line with the “company + rural cooperatives + farmers”; and establishing partnership with 3500 specialized farmer households. The growing industrial chain restructured by Transfar exerts the strengths of the leading company and a large number of farmers. By providing hi-tech and high-quality seedlings to farmers, the farmers will organize and control production in a more concentrated, convenient and correct way and manage their business more elaboratedly so as to form a new specialized work division in the growing industrial chain. To apply the industrial chain mode, Transfar adopts the mode of extending the industrial chain. Transfar has established purchase and sales partnership with some competent big flower growers and resolved sales problem for them.
To show the company’s role as a leading company to promote industrial development, Transfar delivers goods to farmer partners free of charge and gives out free seedlings to some customers. In the past seven years, Transfar has spent near 10 million yuan on free seedlings and delivery cost. It has effectively supported the development of agricultural industry in poor areas and helped farmers become rich.
