Passing various system certifications, Transfar has established the management foundation for constant improvement and a long-term, standard and systematic environment protection management system.
All subsidiary production companies have passed ISO 9001 Quality Management System, ISO 14001 Environment Management System. Most of them have passed GB/T28001 Occupational Safety and Health Management System Certification and Cleaner Production Examination.
- Transfar Paint has also passed Type III Environment Label Certificate of ISO14025 Environment Label International Certification, and China State Compulsory Product CCC Certificate;
- Zhejiang Transfar is the first company in the dyeing and printing assistant industry passing ISO14001 Environment Management System Certification.
Take the example of Qiaonan Factory which was built and put into production in 2007 by Zhejiang Transfar. The total construction cost of the factory is 70 million yuan, in which, about 10 million yuan was co-invested with Honeywell, one of the world top 500s, in the environmental protection facilities for treating waste gas and wastewater. (The daily wastewater treatment ability of the wastewater treatment station of Qiaonan Factory is 600 tons. It can reduce COD (chemical oxygen demand) of wastewater to below 500 and make wastewater up to grade-III water discharge standard.
In the first half of 2008, the waste gas treatment improvement project of Transfar Whyyon was finished successfully, indicating Transfar Whyyon making a breakthrough in grouping and treating waste gas separately with physicochemical process in different areas. It effectively overcomes the bottleneck of environment pollution to business development.
By establishing project team and following the strategy of “building an environmental competitive and resource-saving enterprise, resolved to stop production or transformation of some plastic products which generate main waste gas, and completely overcoming the bottleneck of regional environment to business development”, the project team of Transfar Whyyon studied and analyzed the pollution source carefully, learned from the advanced waste gas treatment technology and successful cases, and finally brought the idea of grouping and treating waste gas separately with physicochemical process in different areas. The improvement idea was optimized by several argumentations. Transfar Whyyon also actively consulted and communicated with a number of professional environmental protection companies and worked out the optimized treatment executive plan. The improvement project was finished construction on June 30. It provides powerful support for the sustainable development of Transfar Whyyon.
By introducing in the effective ICBTM biochemical system and DCS automatic control system of Honeywell, Transfar Whyyon has improved wastewater treatment ability remarkably. Transfar Whyyon also carries out energy saving and pollution reduction activity and controls the discharge of wastewater, waste gas and solid waste, which effectively lowers cost and protect environment.
Xin’an Chemical, a subsidiary of Transfar Group, started producing glyphosate in the 1980s. It keeps optimizing production process and improving production equipment capability. Xin’an Chemical has successfully resolved the problem of recycling Chlormethyl and entered organic silicon new material area with the cost strength of recycling Chlormethyl. It developed the core technology with independent intellectual property, which can recycle Chlormethyl, a side product of glyphosate, and use Chlormethyl in the synthesis of organic silicon monomer. The theory is as follows: Chlormethyl is an important ingredient in the production of organic silicon. In the production process of organic silicon, chlorine only acts as a connector. It does not appear in the final organic silicon product, but is discharged as a side product under the effect of hydrochloric acid. Coincidently, hydrochloric acid is an important ingredient for the production of glyphosate. After being purified, it returns to the production of glyphosate. Finally, chlorine is discharged in Chlormethyl. Thus, the chlorine circulation mode builds a bridge for the production of organic silicon and glyphosate. It skillfully resolves waste discharge problem in the production system of the two products and the issue of using resources comprehensively. The important technology breakthrough generated a patent technology, “new process of using Chlormethyl, side product of glyphosate, in the synthesis of methyl chloresilane monomer”. It not only retrieves and purifies Chlormethyl, side product of glyphosate, and uses it in the synthesis of organic silicon monomer, but also refines and uses hydrochloric acid, side product of organic silicon monomer, in the production of glyphosate (the technology has received state invention patent). Such chlorine recycling eliminates the direct discharge of chlorine substance. It not only reduces production cost remarkably, but also resolves environment pollution problem from the origin, realized the goal of cleaner production process and received good social benefit and financial benefit. The production process and technology is certified as the first in the world. It received the 2nd prize of national technology progress award in 2003.
September 2008, the energy saving and pollution reduction project “Recycling and Reuse of Waste Methanol” submitted by the Engineering Technology Department of Zhejiang Transfar received the honorable title of “National Outstanding Rationalization Proposal on Energy Saving and Pollution Reduction Brought by Employees” granted by All China Federation of Trade Unions. In the program titled National Employees’ Energy Saving and Pollution Reduction Month”, according to the criteria of high technical content, high innovation and significant social benefit and financial benefit, All China Federation of Trade Unions eventually selected the outstanding rationalization proposal on energy saving and pollution reduction by selection at all levels.
The proposal is originated from a rationalization rationalization proposal of an employee of Transfar. Because it is complied with the energy saving and pollution reduction policy of the company, it received high attention of the management of the company. Centering on the rationalization proposal, the Engineering Technology Department established a project team for technology innovation and overcoming the difficult with joint efforts. Finally, by using new technology and equipment, the purity of the recycled methanol has reached 98.5%, completely satisfying the requirement on recycling. Meanwhile, the project was commended by All China Federation of Trade Unions due to its high technical content, high innovation and significant financial benefit and social benefit.
July 2008, the water recycling project of Hangzhou Fine Chemical Co., Ltd., a solely-owned subsidiary of Zhejiang Transfar, was finished successfully. It realized zero discharge of wastewater and can recover the cost in one year. While receiving good environment protection result, it also generates good financial benefit.
The whole water recycling system adopts automatic PLC control and realizes true unattended management. The COD of inflow wastewater of fine chemicals is 1500-2000mg/L. The wastewater enters the water recycling system after biochemical treatment. The COD of the outflow water is below 50mg/L. The water quality is up to the expectation. It can provide water source for water used by water recycling, water used for vacuum pumps and waster used for cleaning barrels. The construction of the water recycling system indicates the fine chemical sector of Zhejiang Trnasfar has made breakthrough in cleaner production and energy saving and pollution reduction. It also brings practical benefit for the enterprise.
The water recycling project of fine chemicals sets a good opening for the chemical companies in Xiaoshan and acts as a model. Meanwhile, it shows our sense of mission as an enterprise with social responsibility. With the success of the water recycling project, Zhejiang Transfar has made a new progress on the way to recycling economy.
